Jon Eder has been part of the Flagstaff musical community since the mid-1970s. A 1975 graduate of Coconino High School, he is currently in his thirtieth year of teaching music in Flagstaff and in his thirteenth year at Flagstaff High School as Director of Instrumental Studies. He is the Resident Pops Conductor of the Flagstaff Symphony, has been the principal clarinetist of the FSO since 1981, and is in his 34th year as a member of the symphony. This is Jon’s third opportunity directing a Flagstaff youth orchestra. He was Director of the Flagstaff Youth Orchestra from 1984-1991, and returned on two other occasions since. Jon’s wide-ranging musical skills are notable; he has performed numerous styles over the years, and is on a very short list of Arizona music teachers whose groups have earned Superior ratings at the state level in concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble and orchestra. His ensembles are in constant demand for performances throughout Northern Arizona.
Jon has a son, Joseph, who resides in Phoenix. Mr. Eder’s mother, Mary Jane, resides in Flagstaff. Mr. Eder counts travel, U.S. history and baseball as his outside interests.
