Resumes
Resumes
Remember that a career search does not start with a resume and cover
letter, rather a resume is a marketing tool that is part of a career
search. In order to write an effective resume you need to plan
your career so that you have an idea of the type of
job you are applying for. In fact, the sole purpose of your resume
is to get the employer to call you for an interview.
Resume assistance is available from CAL Academic and Career Advisors
and from the Gateway Student Success Center. In addition to professional
advisors, the Gateway Student Success Center also has resources on
their web site at: http://www4.nau.edu/gateway/CareerPlanning/Resume.htm

particular skills and experience, make an appointment with a CAL

Chronological
A chronological resume focuses on employment and professional history.
This style works well if you have experience that relates to your career
goal. Chronological resumes are preferred by some employers.
Functional
This resume format focuses on your transferable skills as they relate
to the position or type of position that you are applying for. A functional
resume can be appropriate if you lack directly related experience or
if you are changing careers.
No
Previous Work Experience
This type of resume is typically used for current undergraduate students
who are seeking an internship or summer employment opportunity in their
field. Once you have related experience (internship, part-time job,
volunteer experience) you will want to use either a chronological or
functional resume format.
