The College of Arts and Letters recognizes that the Faculty has responsibility for curriculum, subject matter and method of instruction, in addition to the power to initiate review, formulate, recommend enactment of, and oversee curricular changes and procedures in accordance with the Conditions of Faculty Service (sections 2.5.2 and 4.13), as well as Title 38 and 39 of the Arizona Revised Statutes. Therefore, within the College, there shall be four levels of review for curricular changes and proposals:
- A Faculty Curriculum Committee, be it at the level of the unit or a subunit therein which facilitates the rights of due process for each faculty member in that specific area;
- The department or school chair;
- The College Curriculum Committee;
- The Dean on behalf of the College.
At each level, proposals will be considered--in accordance with a program's and the college's academic standards and policies as well as consistent with university objectives--in terms of the improvement and maintenance of program standards. Proposals are also considered in terms of the necessity to avoid or prevent undue course proliferation.
