Financial support

The Ph.D. program in Applied Linguistics at Northern Arizona University is happy to announce several new funding opportunities for qualified applicants.  These include:

  • the Applied Linguistics Research Fellowship: an award of $4,000
  • the Applied Linguistics PhD Summer Research Award: variable amounts, up to $2,000
  • graduate assistantships teaching in the Program in Intensive English or in the Freshman Composition Program
  • full and partial tuition waivers, for both in-state and out-of-state students
  • summer teaching opportunities

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for all available sources of funding. To apply for the research fellowship and the summer research award, write a short statement of no more than 500 words, explaining your goals as a PhD student and the research projects that you would like to undertake as part of your PhD program at NAU. Include this statement with the other application materials for the PhD program that you submit to the English department. Awards will be decided based on the quality of the statement together with the strength of the other application materials. Applications for graduate assistantships and tuition waivers require separate forms (available on-line at http://www.cal.nau.edu/english/tesl_forms.asp).
