MA English:
literacy, technology and professional writing

The MA in English with an emphasis in Literacy, Technology, and Professional writing prepares students for successful careers as writers and communication specialists in the working worlds of business, industry, education, and government. Courses focus on rhetorical analysis, theories of writing, document design, editing and usability testing, document management, web design, and literacy studies. Areas of study include written and visual rhetoric, recognizing and understanding professional, educational, and business contexts, and using professional composition tools. Courses allow students to study writing, literacy, and document design. Your degree is available online, but you can also take courses related to your field of study on campus.

Students learn the explicit requirements to produce such documents as reports, proposals, argument papers, manuals, and web pages. They also learn about the implicit social contexts and processes in which the documents function. The program offers a mix of theory, application, and hands-on experience, including opportunities for professional internships and building an e-portfolio web site to showcase skills for potential employers or clients. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to create practical and useful documents and projects for working world audiences.

Please note that to be considered for the program, you must complete both the Graduate School Application and the Application Materials & Admission Requirements for the MA in English with an emphasis in Literacy, Technology & Professional Writing.
