The PhD in Applied Linguistics program, in conjunction with the Program in Intensive English (PIE), offers a limited number of PhD summer research awards to qualified applicants. These awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 and are dispersed at the end of each academic year. Awards are renewable for up to four years, conditional on satisfactory progress in the PhD program. These stipends are designed to support promising PhD students and allow them to make progress on their own research projects. The stipends are only available to in-coming PhD students.
To apply, write a short statement of no more than 500 words, explaining your
goals as a PhD student and the research projects that you would like to
undertake as part of your PhD program at NAU.
The statement should use
the header: Application for the Applied Linguistics PhD Summer Research
Award. Include this statement with the other application materials for the
PhD program that you submit to the English department. Awards will be decided
based on the quality of the statement together with the strength of the other
application materials.
