This program of study offers a blend of theoretical and practical courses, ranging from linguistics to ESL methodology and ESL curriculum; in addition, students have the opportunity for supervised teaching experiences each semester. Other central courses include assessment for second language skills and sociolinguistics. Students have the option of taking computer applications in applied linguistics as an elective. The MA-TESL teaching track differs from the applied linguistic track by emphasizing ESL methodology and curriculum issues. MA students in the teaching track take three electives, one of which must be a graduate TESL/applied linguistics course.
