“Image Makers in Film: Creating Media(ted) Identities”
Our series this spring looks at image makers in film: cameramen in
love with the camera-- photographers out for a buck-- photographers
who want only truth-- tough-talking newspaper journalists-- sleazy
tabloid reporters--self-serving televangelists--vile hucksters-- comic
pitchmen-- craven producers, as well as hard-working advertising executives
at the wrong place at the wrong time. These are films about making
headlines, trying to get into the headlines, trying to stay out of
the headlines. The films ask the questions: “is it true if enough
people believe it?” or “is guilt proven in the press and
innocence in the courtroom?” or “when you go public, how
much of your identity is yours?” or “is history simply
manufactured spectacle?”
We have lots of films about film-making and films which are excellent
examples of the making of “image” or “identity” on
film. Each Tuesday night at 7:00pm in Cline Library, we will start
with a short introduction to the film, its actors, director, its production
crew, as well as its place in film history and in the theme of image-making.
We also have a number of free door-prize giveaways and a discussion
following the film. (Show up before to be entered in the give-a-ways.)
We have large and loyal crowds of 150-400 people each week, with plenty
of seating for newcomers. There is free parking behind Cline Library,
in the large lot between South Milton and the Library building. Call
if you have concerns about the appropriateness of films for certain
age groups. For information call 928-523-9515 or visit us on the web.
