Paul Dutton is a historian of European and American social reform. He is author of Differential Diagnoses (Cornell, 2007) and Origins of the French Welfare State (Cambridge, 2002) and articles in the Journal of Modern History, Histoire et Sociétés, Bulletin d’Histoire de la Sécurité Sociale, French History, and Global Affairs.

Dr. Dutton's professional achievements include fellowships at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Brookings Institution Center on the United States and Europe, the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a Fulbright Scholarship. Dr. Dutton earned his B.A. (Politics) at the University of California, Santa Cruz, an M.A. (International Relations) from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego (Modern European History). Dr. Dutton has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, and has lived in France for several years.
