The department offers a series of undergraduate B.A. and B.S. degrees to fit the requirements of students who are seeking an understanding of historical processes and their effect upon the modern world. Emphasis in all of the department programs and courses is upon the development of effective writing and critical thinking skills.
Close personal attention to students needs are an essential part of the required HIS200, HIS300W and HIS498 seminar courses. The degree programs are flexible allowing a student the opportunity to explore a variety of historical periods and topics using traditional and cutting edge approaches of inquiry. Graduates of our degree programs are prepared for specific career paths (e.g., secondary education, see below) as well as a general liberal education.
Course offerings reflect a dynamic and diverse faculty featuring the investigation of U.S. and world histories. In addition, many of the departments course offerings are available for the general student body as part of the Universitys Liberal Studies program.
