Bruce
M. Sullivan, Professor of Religious Studies at Northern Arizona
University.
I am a specialist in Hinduism, Sanskrit literature, and India’s
classical theatre tradition. I have published four books, including
the Historical Dictionary of Hinduism (1997), which has also appeared
in paperback in the United States (2001) and India (2003). In addition,
I published a study of the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata (in The Netherlands
in 1990 and India in 1999). I also have collaborated with a scholar
in India, N. P. Unni, to publish two books, each of which is a
translation and study of a classical Sanskrit drama: The
Sun God's Daughter and King
Samvarana (1995), and The
Wedding of Arjuna and Subhadra (2001). My most recent project is also a collaborative
effort involving NAU professors of Health Sciences and Psychology,
an innovative survey of Buddhist practitioners and the effects
of their practices on their health. My educational background includes
a Ph.D. in South Asian Languages and Civilizations and the History
of Religions from The University of Chicago.
