The Department of Modern Languages offers communicative competence
and cultural awareness in various modern languages – Arabic, French,
German, Spanish, Navajo, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian. We also offer Latin in the Summer.
Approximately 30 full-time faculty, along with several part-time instructors and graduate assistants, teach elementary, intermediate, and advanced level courses to approximately 1,200 students per semester. Students have access to the departmental Language Learning Center, a state-of-the-art computer, video, and audio laboratory.
Degree programs include majors and minors in French, German, Navajo, and Spanish. Special offerings include language pedagogy, intensive study courses, Native American language and culture, as well as study abroad and direct exchange programs.
