Navajo Translation and Interpretation Certification Program

This is a non-degree certification program in Navajo translation and interpretation available to students who are already proficient in Navajo and English. If you are interested in working in a bilingual cultural setting, this program will better prepare you as a service professional, community leader, or teacher, and it will enhance your career possibilities.
To receive certification, you must complete the following 18 hours:

  • NAV 380, 381, and 408 (required courses)
  • ENG 302, SC 361 and other appropriate elective courses as approved by the program director

To apply for admission to the Navajo certification program, you must submit a letter of application and relevant transcripts to the program director. You can be admitted if you have completed ENG 105 (or equivalent) and NAV 303 and 304 or NAV 311 and 312 with grades of B or better during the last six years. If you do not meet these requirements, you may be admitted by passing a written and oral entrance exam, administered by the program director.
Note: you must maintain a B average in certification courses to be retained in this program.
