Teaching and Learning Requirements
- For this 40-46 unit plan, complete:
- foundation courses: EDF 500 and EPS 605 (6 units)
- core education courses: BME 500, BME 537, ECI 508, 522, 525, 540, and 565 (16 units)
- ECI 595 (12 units), which is a 16-week, full-day student-teaching experience.
- 6-12 units in your subject content area, with your content advisor’s approval; in some content areas, you may be required to take additional coursework in the content area in consultation with your academic advisor
Modern Languages' Spanish Graduate Studies Requirements
To complete subject content courses, the Department of Modern Languages' graduate advisors require the following 18 credits:
Consent to enroll in these courses may require an oral and written sample of proficiency, to be evaluated by the Spanish Graduate Coordinator.
9 units on Teaching and Pedagogy:
- SPA 511 Foreign Language Teaching Methods (LAN 430 may be substituted with MODL advisor's consent)
- SPA 514 Testing and Classroom Assessment
- SPA 515 Using Spanish as the Medium of Instruction
3 units on Language Acquisition:
- SPA 554 The Acquisition of Spanish (LAN 435 may be substituted with MODL Graduate Coordinator's consent)
3 units on Literature or Culture (choose any 3 units):
- SPA 531 Hispanic Writers in the United States, SPA 532 Hispanic Theater, SPA 533 Topics in Spanish Literature, SPA 534 Topics in Latin American Literature
3 units on Linguistics (choose any 3 units):
- SPA 551 Structures of Modern Spanish, SPA 552 Phonetics and Phonology of Spanish, SPA 553 Sociolinguistics and Dialectology of the Spanish Classroom
