Renewing Rituals of Rest that Promote Sustainable Stewardship
Rest is sorely lacking in American culture. While it might seem that rest is easy, it is not, for in our culture, rest is seen as laziness, without worth. In fact, it is essential to sustainable stewardship. In a series of four essays, I explore rituals of rest and reflect on my own relationships with special places. I have found that slowing down helps us to renew connections with one another, with our bodies and our communities, and with Creation as a whole. My hope is to inspire others to discover their own rituals of rest so that we can be more sustainable stewards of Creation.
