Making it Real

How does the MLS degree enable you do the good work you want to do in the world? What can you do with an MLS degree?

Graduates of the MLS program invariably report that the world is a profoundly different place than it was when they started the program. But it's not the world that has changed, it is their own lives that have been transformed.

Their academic programs have included field work, internships, and volunteer activities. They have developed such hands on community-making skills as grant writing, fundraising, conflict resolution, community mapping, and videography.

So what will you do with your MLS degree? The answer is as varied as our graduates. There is no typical path and no typical profile. Almost all of our graduates have found meaningful employment in positions related to their program focus. These include museum education, health care, community services, non-profit organizations, journalism and film, university education, agriculture and food security, sustainable design, ecological restoration, sustainable tourism, and local and federal government. For those who have wished to continue into PhD programs and law school, the MLS program has provided a successful staging ground.

You needed the tools and the knowledge to help build good and sustainable communities. Now you have them.

Go forth and make it real!
