Permaculture in El Salvador: An Alternative to Neoliberal Development
This thesis is a result of seven years of experience and education, including my stint with the Peace Corps in El Salvador. In it, I chronicle the work of The Permaculture Institute of El Salvador, an organization that is effectively promoting sustainable living alternatives and ecological agriculture for the rural poor of El Salvador. I analyze their application of permaculture philosophy to the local culture and climate and their work with the Mesoamerican Farmer to Farmer Movement. Their model for sustainable community development is an inspiration and a guide to what is possible for El Salvador and the rest of the world.
