Bullying Prevention Conference: Cyberbullying
This is a one day conference for teachers features Dr. Sameer Hinduja ( Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Florida Atlantic University). Many other organizations have created websites with information for the public, students, teachers, and parents. Here are those that we think are most useful:
Anti-Defamation League – This site offers information for parents, teachers, and students on responding to cyberbullying. ADL also has information on workshops they provide on the subject.
Be Web Aware - Is "a national, bilingual public education program on Internet safety" that provides tips for parents and teachers on internet safety and awareness. They provide saftey tips for specific age groups, and information on getting the most out the internet while avoiding the risks.
Bullying Prevention Initiative - Provides a Bullying Prevention Resource Guide for schools, families and community partners. "This guide is designed to help communities across the nation take advantage of what has been learned and accomplished over the past 3-1/2 years by the schools, districts and nonprofit organizations participating in The Colorado Trust’s $8.6 million Bullying Prevention Initiative (BPI)."
Cyberbullying.us - Provides cyber bullying statistics, downloads, fact sheets, stories, cases, research, resources, strategies and solutions to help you stop online cruelty.
International Bullying Prevention Association - Supports research-based bullying prevention programs worldwide. Includes resources, research, training, and membership information.
i-safe.org - "the worldwide leader in the Internet safety education. Founded in 1998 and endorsed by the U.S. Congress, i-SAFE is a non-profit foundation dedicated to protecting the online experiences of youth everywhere. i-SAFE incorporates classroom curriculum with dynamic community outreach to empower students, teachers, parents, law enforcement, and concerned adults to make the Internet a safer place."
Kids Against Bullying - A site that teaches children "about how to respond to bullying by participating in games, viewing webisodes, and listening to real life stories."
KnowCluePBWiki - Provides lectures (presented via Second Life) on internet use, and multimedia in the classroom. This specific link directs you to a lecture by Anne Collier 'Youth Safety on the Social Web'.
Learning Peace - "Learning Peace brings the skills of peacemaking and conflict resolution to the home and the classroom: skills that can be used by parents, teachers and students."
National Crime Prevention Council - Provides information , PSAs, and games (featuring McGruff the crime dog). This site offers much more than what's linked on their prevention pages, so type 'bullying' into the site search for more.
Netsmartz.org - created by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). They provide an "interactive, educational safety workshop for children aged 5 to 17, parents, guardians, educators, and law enforcement that uses age-appropriate, 3-D activities to teach children how to stay safer on the Internet."
Olweus Bullying Prevention Program - "is a comprehensive, school-wide program designed for use in elementary, middle, or junior high schools. Its goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations at school."
The Ophelia Project - Is a national, nonprofit organization with expertise in the area of relational aggression (female agression/covert bullying). This site "serves youth and adults who are affected by relational and other non-physical forms of aggression by providing them with a unique combination of tools, strategies and solutions."
Stop Bullying Now! - US Department of Health and Human Services offers flash movies, games, and information about bullying and how to prevent it. geared toward kids, but information for adults too.
