Scott D. Farrah received his Bachelors of Arts degree with an emphasis in instrumental music (trombone) from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi in 1995.  He began his graduate studies at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, earning the Master of Music degree in Music Theory in 1998.  He then accepted a visiting instructor position at the University of Arkansas in the fall of 1998 prior to entering the Ph.D. program at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida in 2000.  While in attendance at Florida State, Scott was awarded both research and teaching fellowships.  In addition he served as President of the Florida State University Music Theory Society and acted as program chair of the Florida State University Music Theory Society Forum.  He received his Ph.D. in Music Theory in the spring of 2007.

Scott’s research interests include jazz and popular music as well as the music of black Americans.  He has presented research on the music of Florence Price at The Florida State University Music Theory Society Forum, the GAMMA-UT Conference at the University of Texas at Austin, and at the annual meeting of the South Central Society for Music Theory.
