Emily Hoppe McKay is Assistant Professor of Flute at Northern Arizona University, principal flutist of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, member of the Kokopelli Ensemble and flutist for the Agassiz Flute and Clarinet Duo. Formerly, Ms. McKay served as Associate Instructor of Flute and Chancellor's Doctoral Fellow at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, where she performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Indiana Symphony Orchestra, and the Indiana University Festival Orchestra.
In addition, Ms. McKay has recorded as the piccoloist of Philharmoia à Vent on the Klavier Records label. Ms. McKay has presented master classes at Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Penn State University, Stephen F. Austin University, Elizabethtown College, Tyler Junior College, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Phoenix College, Mesa Community College, and Glendale Community College. Additional performances and presentations include guest artist features for the Arizona Flute Society and Great Southwest Flute Fest. Internationally, Ms. McKay was chosen to serve on a select delegation from NAU to travel to China. During her two-week residency, Ms. McKay performed and taught at the Shenyang Conservatory of Muisc in Shenyang, China.
Ms. McKay is an active member of the National Flute Association as a performer at the 2007 Convention in Albuquerque, NM, and as the Assistant Program Chair for the 2006 NFA Convention held in Pittsburgh, PA. Previous to her appointment at NAU, Ms. McKay served as Instructor of Flute at Elizabethtown College and York College of Pennsylvania, and as Interim Instructor of Flute at West Chester University. She performed with the Harrisburg Opera Association, Lancaster Opera Company, Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, Altoona Symphony, Penn's Woods Festival Orchestra, and as the featured soloist of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra.
She has served on adjudicating committees for the Music Teacher National Association, National Flute Association, Arizona Flute Society, and Arizona Music Educators Association performing competitions. She has presented workshops for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and is published in American Music Teacher, The Flutist Quarterly, and Flute Talk magazines. Ms. McKay is a graduate of Penn State University, Carnegie Mellon University, and is a candidate for the Doctor of Music, Flute Performance and Music Literature degree at Indiana University. Her teachers include Thomas Robertello, Jeanne Baxtresser, Alberto Almarza, Jeffrey Khaner, and Eleanor Duncan Armstrong.
