American conductor Nicholas G. M.
Ross has been praised for his
imaginative programming and engaging leadership. Creative programming
and non-traditional approaches to performance are the trademark of
Ross’ career earning acclaim from audiences of all ages.
Demonstrating his affinity for the operatic stage, Ross served as an Associate
Conductor with New York City Opera during the ‘07-’08 season, and
served as an Assistant Conductor with the Glimmerglass Opera Company for three
years. A fiftieth anniversary performance of Bernstein’s masterpiece "West
Side Story" featured Ross as Music Director and Conductor in December 2007
for a collaborative production with John Jay and Ohio Wesleyan Colleges.
Past symphonic conducting posts include Music Director of the Hunter Symphony
in New York City, Conducting Assistant with the Phoenix Symphony, Cover Conductor
for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Onondaga Civic Symphony
Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra.
In the spring of 2004 Ross appeared as guest conductor with the Harbin Symphony
Orchestra in Harbin, China in performance of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From
the New World”, Copland’s “Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo”,
and Rossini’s Overture to L’Italiana in Algeri. Additional
guest conducting appearances include performances with the Arizona State University
Lyric Opera Theater, the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra in Canandaigua, New
York, the Society of Composers Festival in Tempe, Arizona, and the Syracuse University
Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to his conducting career, Ross maintains an active performance schedule
as a violinist having performed with many notable artists including Wynton Marsalis,
Natalie Cole, Olivia Newton-John, Bobby Vinton, and Frank Sinatra Jr., as well
as Broadway touring productions of The Producers, Annie Get Your Gun, and Peter
Pan.
