Jennifer Russell recently completed her Ph.D. in Music Theory at the
University of Oregon, where she was also a Visiting Instructor. With
a B.M. in Piano Pedagogy, she has taught studio lessons and theory
courses with the Utah State University Youth Conservatory, as well
as in her private studio. She spent the past few years teaching
group voice and adult theory courses through the American Music Institute. She
has also been the choral conductor at the Oregon Festival of American
Music as well as the assistant director of the Song and Dance Camp
at the same festival.
Her secondary area of study was Vocal Performance and she was an active performer
throughout her graduate studies and since graduation. Her theory research
is focused on song and her dissertation studied text painting in Lieder of
Wolf and Schoenberg. Recent performances include the role of the speaker
in Pierrot lunaire, performed with the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble,
Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Lily in The Secret Garden,
and many solo and chamber recitals in the western United States.
