Blase Scarnati received his master of Music degree in performance from Northwestern University and his bachelor of music from Youngstown State University. He received his Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Pittsburgh, in May of 1998 from which he also received a master of arts degree.

His principle teachers include Arnold Jacob's of the Chicago Symphony, John Turk of Youngstown State University, and Ronald Bishop of the Cleveland Orchestra. He has been principle of the Illinois Philharmonic, and the American Chamber Symphony and performed widely in the Chicago area with brass quintets from these two organizations.
