Rick Stamer holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Hastings College, a Master of Music degree from Arizona State University, and a Doctor of Music Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado. 

Dr. Stamer’s academic experience includes eight years of public school teaching in Nebraska.  Widely respected by his peers in the choral profession for his ability to balance performance expectations and the educational needs of his students; he was recognized as the Outstanding Young Choral Director in Nebraska in 1987.  Dr. Stamer’s commitment to improving the quality of music education experiences for choral students throughout the nation led him to pursue and complete a Doctorate in Music Education in 1995.  He has served on the music faculty of the University of Texas at Arlington, Utah State University, Central Washington University, and as a visiting faculty member during a summer session of the University of Montana.  He currently serves on the music faculty of Northern Arizona University.

At Northern Arizona University, Dr. Stamer serves as the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Music Education program and the Summer Master’s program in music teaching.  His teaching responsibilities include undergraduate teacher preparation courses for music education majors and graduate music education courses.  In all of his teaching and administrative duties he draws upon his extensive experience working with elementary, middle school and high school students and his knowledge of contemporary trends in undergraduate and graduate music education, to provide future and present music educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the classroom.

Articles written by Dr. Stamer have appeared in Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, the Journal of Music Teacher Education, the Music Educators Journal, and the Colorado Choral Director.  Dr. Stamer has presented educational sessions at the MENC National Convention, the MENC Northwest Division Convention, the MENC Eastern Division Convention, the MENC Southwestern Division Symposium, the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, the Utah Music Educators Association Convention, and the Colorado Music Educators Association Convention.
