Why Study at NAU's School of Music?

Instructors emphasize a practical approach to the study of music education foundations, research and current issues. At NAU, graduate students relate these academic topics to the teaching environments they will be facing upon graduation. In addition to a solid pedagogical foundation, students have the opportunity to enhance their own musical skills by performing in any of the numerous large and small ensembles available within the School of Music and within the city of Flagstaff. Students may individualize their studies by choosing from performance, conducting, repertoire, music history, and music theory classes to meet elective requirements. Students may also have the chance to apply their pedagogical skills by teaching within the Community School and/or with undergraduate students.

NAU’s School of Music faculty is committed to seeing that every student develops his/her ability in music education pedagogy and to ensuring a vibrant learning environment.
