The Northern Arizona Writing Project (NAWP) is an affiliate of the National Writing Project, a network of writing programs committed to the advancement of writing for K-12 teachers and students. Since its beginning in 1988, NAWP has been providing programs and services, including Northern Arizona University graduate credit courses and in-service workshops, to educators throughout rural Arizona. NAWP provides many programs in small towns and on the Navajo, Hopi, and other Native American Reservations.
Principles that govern the Northern Arizona Writing Project:
- The best teacher of teachers is another teacher.
- Student writing can be improved by improving the teaching of writing.
- All students are entitled to equal access of knowledge.
- All students can achieve.
- A multicultural education enriches our students.
- Teachers of writing and literature must write and read.
- What is known about the teaching of writing comes not only from research but from the practice of those who teach.
