Are you focusing on literacy skills?
The Northern Arizona Writing Project would like to send a teacher-consultant to your school to assist you and your staff as you prepare to address your students’ needs.
We can do workshops tailored especially to your staff’s needs in any area of literacy. Some workshops we have done in the past as part of back-to-school teacher orientation include:
Writing
- Six Traits Overview
- Writing Process and 6 Traits
- Trait-Based Writing Assessment
- Using Picture Books to Introduce the 6 Traits
- Constructing 6-Trait-Based Lesson Plans
- Mock Scoring Using 6 Traits
- Enticing the Reluctant Writer
- Fear of Writing (for teachers who are reluctant writers)
- Writing Across the Curriculum
Reading
- Reading Comprehension Strategies
- DIBELS training
We can also provide Structured English Immersion training. If you are interested, please contact Erika Konrad at (928) 523-2557 or e-mail Erika.Konrad@nau.edu
In-service Courses
in addition to the annual Flagstaff Summer Institute and Advanced Summer Institute, NAWP offers writing retreats for teachers and a variety of professional development writing workshops and mentoring services that can be hosted at your school during the school year or during the summer. If you prefer to experience Flagstaff’s spectacular environment (including cool temperatures in the summer and skiing in the winter), we are more than happy to host you and your colleagues on the NAU campus in a program custom-designed for your school. Some frequently requested writing workshop topics include:
- The Writing Process
- Fear of Writing
- Issues in Second Language Learning
- Enticing the Reluctant Writer
- Writing Across the Curriculum
- Six Trait Overview Training
- 6+1 Trait Writing Assessment
- Six Trait “Mock Scoring” Training
- Using Picture Books to Introduce the 6+1 Traits
- Writing and the Arizona Standards/AIMS Workshops
- On-Site Mentoring
In addition, NAWP can customize design writing workshops to meet your school’s specific needs. Because we are a service unit of Northern Arizona University, we can deliver, on-site at your school, English and Education courses that produce NAU credit hours for your educators.
