The National Writing Project (NWP) is a federally funded, nationwide network of teachers dedicated to improving the teaching of writing in our nation’s schools. More than 100,000 teachers throughout the United States participate in NWP programs every year at approximately 160 NWP sites, including the Northern Arizona Writing Project. The unifying philosophy and method employed at all NWP sites and programs is the utilization of master teachers who teach other teachers.
Since its inception at the University of California in 1974, more than 1.5 million teachers have participated in NWP and its affiliated programs. Not necessarily English teachers, they desire to improve the teaching of writing in whatever subject they teach.
