“Evils and Inexcusable Wrongs” is about what distinguishes evils from lesser wrongs. One factor is that in the case of evils, there is no moral excuse for the wrong. Can there be any moral excuse for tolerating or supporting a practice, despite the evils it contains, as an improvement over prior practice and a step in the direction of justice? The death penalty in the U.S. is a test case that I discuss.
