Theatre Focus/Programs
It is important that you read the admissions requirements in addition to the information provided here to learn more about what is required for your emphasis. It is also helpful to refer to the current catalog.
Design/Technology Focus
Design opportunities in scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and makeup are available but are a privilege that must earned. Before a student can be assigned as a production designer or an assistant designer, they will have to complete all required course work and meet the standards set by the design/tech faculty.
Admission to the Design/Technology emphasis occurs in of the fourth semester of residency, or the week following spring break, which ever comes later. Design/Technology students must complete a portfolio review for admission to the Design/Technology emphasis.
Performance Focus
Performance students must audition for admission into the Performance emphasis, which begins with admission into acting II. No admission to acting II will be granted without an audition. The maximum enrollment will be 20.
Admission to the performance emphasis occurs mid-term of the second semester of residency. Freshmen/transfer students seeking admission to the performance emphasis must formally apply to the faculty for admission.
Theatre Studies Program
The theatre studies program maintains a flexible nature. It exists primarily for those students seeking a broader experience in theatre that combines courses from all emphasis areas. Theatre studies is recommended for students intent on graduate studies, university teaching, or a more academic/traditional experience beyond the more focused performance and production tracks.
A student not admitted to an emphasis will automatically become a theatre studies major for one semester and may re-audition for the emphasis following the completion of one full semester’s work (summers are not included) after the interview/audition.
