Kate Ellis (Associate Professor, Costume Design) teaches Costume Design, Costume Technology, Drawing and Rendering, Stage Make-up, Script Analysis, and is co-instructor of the Junior and Senior year production seminars. She received her B.S. in Theatre from Northwestern University and following graduation joined the staff and taught at the college of Du Page in Glen Ellyn, IL for five years. She received her M.F.A. in Theatrical Design from the University of Texas, Austin. She was assistant professor of Costume Design and shop manager at the University of Texas, Pan American before joining the faculty at NAU. Kate has designed professionally in and around Chicago, Austin, Baton Rouge, and in San Jose, Costa Rica. In addition she has designed scenery for both educational and professional theatre. She has worked as a Cutter/Draper at the Utah Shakespearean Festival and as the Asst. Costume Shop Manager at the Contemporary American Theatre Festival. She has presented workshops in costume design, technology, and stage makeup at local, state, and regional conferences. Kate is on the executive boards of both the South West Theatre and Film Association and the Desert State Section of USITT and is the programming coordinator for the USITT Costume Commission for the 2009 conference in Cincinnati, OH and the 50th anniversary conference in Kansas City, 2010. In addition, Kate directed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and The Fantasticks for NAU Theatre.
