Never has there been a greater time for NAU Alumni to give back to
their alma mater. One person can make a difference and with the
state facing financial challenges there have been major budget cuts
across the board and the Department of Theatre is not immune. There
are many opportunities to give to NAU Theatre. The list of funds
includes many scholarships including the Clifford E and Doris S White
scholarships the Gardner, the Stephen Hild and many more. Scholarships of course directly affect the students in aiding their ability to study. However
there are other funds that affect the students in a positive way including
the newly formed Golden Stage Hands.
The power of one can and IS making a difference. One alumnus has pledged to make a difference by giving back to NAU Theatre because the department and the people made a difference in her life. Robin Abrahms Felton, Arts Management, ‘84 has pledged to match up to $5,000.00 gifts of all sizes, no matter how small. What this means is the power of one multiplies and if you are able to give $25.00 your funds become $50.00, if $100.00 the donation becomes $200.00 and if you have $500.00 to give it becomes a thousand. The power of one multiplied is an exciting possibility because of where the gifts are intended to rest, in the Golden Stage Hands.
The new fund, The Golden Stage Hands was born out of a desire to find creative and impactful ways to make a difference. The idea is to use the funds to “sparkle” a production taking it to new heights and opening up opportunities for students with perhaps complicated costumes or sets, huge epic productions, guest artists, or technology such as projections. These ideas are just a few of the myriad of sparkles already discussed and if our alumni become Golden Stage Hands we hope they too will bring exciting and dynamic ideas to the table. Take some time to read Robin's letter and join the “backstage crew” of Golden Stage Hands!
The Felton’s (Jim and Robin) have joined the Golden Stage Hands as founding members and their donation in 2008 was put towards “sparkling” the costumes for our production of The Importance of Being Earnest.
