Commedia Dell Arte'
Traditional Mask Making
NAU Theatre students went back in time in order to create the masks used in last season’s production of The Miser They began by studying and ultimately using traditional Commedia dell Arte’ traditions and techniques. The specialty course, TH 440 Mask Making was added to the semester’s curriculum to afford the students hands-on learning experience and then to apply the final product to an actual production. The designer, actors and student mask artist worked closely throughout the process (from face casting to the final performance) to ensure the leather masks were a complete fit and enhancement of the character. The student artists used traditional materials and tools to meet the challenge of the production. To see more, watch the video!
